Here is some useful information about lasers

We proudly feature the Sciton Erbium:YAG laser for skin resurfacing, the most technologically advanced and most refined resurfacing laser in use today. We have helped develop this laser and have written most of the protocols in use worldwide. The laser is used to treat various skin conditions including wrinkles, loose skin, acne scars, textural irregularities and pigment. A resurfacing laser removes layers of skin in a controlled fashion. We tailor the depth of resurfacing to the patients problem and downtime. Many times repeated light treatments will give similar results to deep resurfacing. This laser is much different from its predecessors and causes virtually no pigment issues. Laser resurfacing may be performed as an isolated procedure or in conjunction with other procedures like facelifts, breast augmentation or tummy tucks.

We have given the resurfacing procedures names that have to do with depth of resurfacing.

The lightest procedure we do with the least down time is called an ArcticPeel™ . This procedure was invented by Dr. Pozner and involves resurfacing the skin with the Sciton Erbium:YAG laser with anesthesia provided by blowing cold air on the skin. There is no downtime and there are no pre or post procedure medications required. The ArcticPeel™ is now most often combined with Profractional resurfacing which drills small holes in the skin that heal very quickly.

A Microlaser Peel (MLP) is a light laser peel that is custom designed to your schedule with downtime from 1 to 4 days depending on depth. This procedure is designed to treat pigmentary issues, mild wrinkling and textural issues. The procedure is performed by first applying a topical anesthetic for approximately 45 minutes. This is wiped off and the laser is used to remove a thin layer of old damaged skin. This is also often combined with Profractional resurfacing especially in patients with acne scars. Significant changes in skin texture will be seen in 1-2 treatments – much different from other fractional laser systems.

Deep resurfacing is used to treat deep wrinkles especially around the mouth and to tighten skin around the eyes. Dr. Pozner is considered one of the world’s experts in deep laser resurfacing. Treatments may be performed with local anesthesia or with general or twilight anesthesia in our certified surgical suite.
