Daycare centers are a convenient place to drop off your children to get more time for both career and private life. Using daycare centers means to give your children to a third party, who will take care of your child, so a great deal of trust is needed. However, do not feel alarmed, there are a few basic steps that you can do before selecting a center, which should make you comfortable in your selection, that your child will be safe and happy. In this short article we will focus on the physical environment at the daycare center.
Check for playgrounds at the daycare center. There can be both indoor and outdoor playgrounds, depending on the location. It is common sense that the playground will help your child to be in good physical shape, but, the playground can also help to release stress from your child, by playing in the informal settings of physical games. Children are much easier to form bonds through physical play than through communication. Bonds can be made that determine the social skills of your child later in life.
While just having the playground is important, you should also check what kind of playground equipment that is offered. Swing sets and slides are better for older children, who are aware of their dangers, while "merry go rounds", sandboxes, and other items where the child can relax are safe for smaller children. It goes unsaid that there should always be adults present anywhere in the da
ycare center, especially in the playground. Also keep an eye on the kind of material the playground equipment is constructed from. While most materials are safe in smaller doses, it is a good idea to check for example that the toy-brands are known for not using PVC.
For indoor games, an alternative to the playground is activity tables. Here your child can learn about arts and crafts at an early age. Not only to learn the value of making things with your own hands, but also another much more practical angle, which is to get the motor co-ordination trained, to be able to do fine work later on in life.
Another related thing to check at the daycare center, is the availability of rest mats, where your child can get a comfortable nap, after burning all energy on the playground and at the activity tables. A soft rest mat with a pillow and a blanket at a quiet corner or a separate room, will make your child well-rested and ready for more action later.
Finally, when all the settings are in order and to your satisfaction, it is a good idea to inquire what kind of surface sanitizer the daycare center is using for cleaning the equipment at the end of the day. While mostly harmless to your child, the soil of the playground contains lots of bacteria and much of this will also be brought inside to the activity tables, so keeping the place clean on a daily basis should be a requirement.
With these few steps, daycare centers will be a good solution for your child to grow up in an environment with both playing and learning.
