Q: I'm going to start exercising, what do you suggest I do to start off?A: Hmm...Well, start out slow. You don't want to overwork yourself. Maybe try walking around your neighborhood or a local park someplace nearby. Then after a couple of days or a week of this, you can start jogging. Try using weights to tone up your muscle, which burns fat more effectively. Drink water consistently throughout your workout, so it keeps you hydrated and energized, and keeps your metabolism burning.
Q: I like a girl, but I don't know how to approach her. I have trouble expressing what I feel, especially to girls I like. What do you suggest?A: Well, you probably have trouble with that because you're putting your insecurities out there in the open. You just have to remember that rejection is part of it, and it also helps build up your esteem. Don't let it get to you too much, there will always be plenty of other girls. Now with that being said, if she's not taken or something, just start asking her about her likes and dislikes in guys and relationships. I think that'll be enough of an intro to telling her that you like her. Ask about those things and take note of it. Most girls like it if you truly pay attention. If she sounds kind of defensive, or says she likes someone (that is clearly defined as not you) then smoothly back away and start talking about your ex or something else. But if she's not defensive, then try work up to saying something along the lines of "Yeah, I'm into those things, too. I'm just curious, because I like you. I wanted to know if you like me too." If she declines, then just say if it'd be ok to stay friends. If she accepts, then the world is yours, Tony Montana. Of course, this is not the only way to go about it. Do what makes you feel comfortable.
Q: I'm trying to quit smoking cigarettes, but it's really hard. I don't know what to do. What do you recommend?A: Well, unfortunately, I've had friends go through the same problem as you. I don't know what level of addiction you are experiencing, but it's always good to have a handy pack of gum (sugar-free) around when you get an urge. It's something for your teeth to do, and it's a good distraction. If that doesn't help at all, try getting some nicotine patches. Apply the intended amount to your arm and/or to your armpit. Drink a lot of water, and try to keep yourself distracted with other projects, like catching up on homework or looking for a job, or cleaning up your room. It's funny how good things can be derived from the bad, in that sense.
Q: My best friend is ignoring me for his girlfriend. I don't think she's any good for him, but he's so wrapped around her finger, he can't realize it. What should I do?A: Well, first of all, don't be too harsh on your friend. This happens to the best of us, forgetting our friends to our current significant other. I'm sure once he comes to his senses, he'll remember what's truly important. Try approaching him when he's alone (free of the influence of his girlfriend) and telling him what you think. Don't be antagonizing, because that'll just make him think you're jealous or not looking out for his well-being. Talk to him about it; try to look at it from his point of view. Tell him how it's affecting you, but don't forget to remind him that you're happy that he's happy. You just think he deserves better. Don't give him ultimatums, because that will make the stress worse on him. He'll come around, soon enough. And if he doesn't, then he wasn't such a good friend to choose an unhealthy relationship over a healthy friendship.
